What is a CRB Score? Your CRB score (200-900) shows how well you manage credit. Banks in Kenya use it to decide if they'll approve your loan and what interest rate to offer you.
Do you pay your loans and bills on time?
How much of your credit limit do you use?
How long have you had credit?
Do you have different types of credit?
How many loan applications have you made recently?
A CRB (Credit Reference Bureau) score is a numerical representation of your creditworthiness, ranging from 200 to 900. It shows how reliably you repay loans and credit. Kenyan banks use CRB scores from Metropol, TransUnion, and Creditinfo to decide whether to approve your loan application.
In Kenya, a good CRB score is 700 and above. Scores of 750+ are excellent and qualify you for the best interest rates. Scores between 650-699 are fair, while scores below 600 may result in loan rejection or very high interest rates.
You can get your official CRB report from Metropol, TransUnion Kenya, or Creditinfo Kenya. You are entitled to one free report per year from each bureau.
Improving your CRB score takes time. Small improvements can be seen in 3-6 months with consistent on-time payments. Significant improvements typically take 12-24 months. Negative items like defaults can stay on your report for up to 5 years in Kenya.
Now that you know your estimated score, find loans that match your creditworthiness.
